Wild caught shrimp from Mexico import prohibition



Effective April 30, 2021, as per Federal Register Notice 2021-09077, “Section 609 of Public Law 101-162 (“Sec. 609”) prohibits imports of wild-caught shrimp or products from shrimp harvested with commercial fishing technology unless certification has been granted by the Department of State. The Department of State suspended the certification of Mexico because its sea turtle protection program is no longer comparable to that of the United States.


Any wild-caught shrimp or products from shrimp harvested with commercial fishing technology from Mexico is not permitted entry into the United States.
